Free From Sin

Galatians 5:1
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery”
It is the fourth of July weekend and many of you are celebrating. You may have gone to the lake, river, or beach. Maybe your like me and stayed at home. However, have you thought about what is freedom? Freedom is best defined as the quality or state of being free. However, do we feel like we are free? I'm not talking about politics but instead sin. There was a time in my life that I was living the bare minimum of the Christian walk. I tried to fit in, and instead found myself caught up in the chains of sin to the point I felt like it was in control of me. Your sins may make you the same. You have struggles and shame and then listen to sermons about our salvation. You know that Jesus took care of sin, but you still feel trapped. You may understand that Jesus gave you freedom, but you don’t experience that. If this is you I want to point you to this reminder.

Paul wrote the book of Galatians to help them understand their faith. During this time the early church was beginning to spread across the world. They didn't have the New Testament or technology like we have today to help in their daily walk, but just like some do they started to focus on the rules instead of living a life of faith. They knew that Jesus died for their sins, but they thought they had to go down the list of rules and follow each of them. Just like Paul did to other churches he wrote to settle the issues.

Maybe you have sin in your life that you feel is in control of you. You may try to fight against it but always find yourself falling into that sin. You may feel doubtful, guilty, or shameful because of it. If that's you read this verse again “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery”. Jesus has given you freedom from your sins. If you feel entangled in that sin get up and walk toward that freedom that only Christ can give you. Your sin has no hold on you, Jesus broke the chains that once held you. I am a firm believer that God will provide a way out of temptation, but we have to find the way out. It is up to you to have the desire to walk in freedom. If there is anything that you think is holding you back from knowing who God wants you to be walk toward Jesus and experience the freedom only he gives. Your sin may seem strong, but Jesus is stronger.

Pray:
Jesus thank you for dying on the cross for my sins so that I may be freed from them. I pray that if there is anything that is holding me back from experiencing the freedom only you give I ask that you show me what those things may be. Thank you for giving us freedom.
