Grow Your Faith: Day 1

READ: 1 Corinthians 3:1-3

Brothers, I could not address you are spiritual but as worldly mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not wordly? Are you not acting like mere men?
Do you play a sport?  Imagine if you played baseball or softball for 10 years of your life. However, you still could not field a ball or failed to get on base. Would this level of performance be considered normal? Not at all. What if you called yourself a musician but could only play twinkle twinkle little star. Is this someone you would consider to be a musician? No.

These examples would be considered normal, but instead quite funny. Why is that? It's because if someone spends their life practicing there should be progress and growth in that activity. If a baseball player has practiced all his life but still can't throw a baseball from 2nd to 1st it's safe to say that might not be the sport for you.

The same is true with our faith. God excepts us to grow. He excepts you to show progress in your knowledge of Him and His word. This is not an option. God calls you to a relationship with Him that grows deeper and more real every day. In today's verse, we see that Paul is frustrated with the believers at Corinth because they were spiritually immature. He even says that he has to feed them milk like you would a baby (v.2). The Corinthians did not desire to grow in their walk, and they were spiritually weak. They did not meet the expectations that Paul had set for them.

Jesus expressed his frustration in the same way whether it was toward his disciples, Pharisees, or Jews. The Bible is clear that in order to live the life that God desires for us to have, we must be committed to growing our faith.

Reflect:

1.) Are you pursuing God with passion and commitment? It's an important question to ask

2.) Read Hebrews 5:11-12. What similarities do the Hebrews have to the Corinthians?

Pray:

God, I pray that as I begin the journey to grow closer to you I ask that you give me a clear heart and mind so that I can hear from you. Work in my heart to make me the person you have called me to be. Forgive me for the days that I put other things before you, and I know that you are the giver of true Joy.
