30 For 30 Challenge: Day 3
REAd: Hebrews 12:1-3
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right-hand throne of God. (v.3)
We don't know who wrote the book of Hebrews. However, that doesn't take away that whoever wrote these words, they are good one. If you haven't already read the verses that are mentioned above before moving on.
In Hebrews Chapter 11, the author had just finished listing a ton of the awesome, God-loving people. This chapter is known as the Heroes of Faith or some even call it the "hall of fame" of Christians. People such as Abraham, Noah, Sarah, Moses, and other great Israelites are mentioned in this chapter. After finishing listing a ton of these names, the writer shifts gears to Chapter 12. The writer was saying that since the Hebrews had a rich tradition and examples of faith around them, they should be encouraged to "throw off everything that hinders them" and continue to run their race of faith.
What are some things that "entangle" you? It may be sports, money, friends, relationships, or social media. Did you know that your thoughts can act as obstacles to your faith? The things that we dedicate our time to will eventually be idols in our lives. You have heard us say that if you walk with Godly people you will be encouraged to do the same, but if you walk with the wrong crowd you will become just like them. The same goes for those things items you have written down. Are these idols in your life? Whatever these things are I encourage you to write them down, and think about the influence they have on your life.
The first step in the beginning to grow your faith is to identify those things that are standing in the way of your faith. You can't fix the issue if you don't know what the issue is.

Reflect:
1.) Who in your life has a faith you can model? Write their names
2.) How can you be encouraged by that person?
3.) How does focusing on Jesus and His life and teachings enable you to grow closer to him?
4.) How do your emotions and attitude get in the way of you growing your relationship with Jesus

Pray:
Take the time today to pray about the things you have written down. Talk to God about the obstacles that keep you from pursuing Him more faithfully. Listen to what God says to you. Ask Him for strength to do something about it
