30 For 30 Challenge: Day 4

READ Matthew 16:13-20, Colossians 1:9-12, Matthew 5:16, and Ephesians 5:1-2
We've talked a lot about owning your faith. But we haven't really defined it yet. Todays devotion is a little lengthy, but I believe is important for you to understand in detail what owning your faith looks like. Let's look at what the Bible has to say about four different truths of owning your faith

Truth 1: You must respond to Christ by a desire to know Him.
In Matthew 16:13-20, Peter confessed that Jesus was more than just another preacher or leader. This was a gut check moment for Peter. It was the moment that Peter identified Jesus as his Lord. This was where Peter solidified his pursuit of Jesus.

Truth 2: You must grow
In Colossians 1:9-12, Paul is praying for his friends at the church of Colossae. He prays specifically that they would grow in their knowledge of God through wisdom and understanding.  And why did Paul want this for them? So they could live a life of action and growth, a life that is worthy of the Lord.

Truth 3: You must live a Christ-like Faith
Paul gives another command to Christians in Ephesus and us in Ephesians 5:1-2. He tells them to imitate God in the way we live, especially in how we love those around us. Imitating Christ means living as Christ would live. That means we should live by example at school, at work, in the locker room, and during club activities. We should act as Jesus would act in any situation.

Truth 4: You must live in such a way that your life impacts the world in a positive way.
In Matthew  5:16, Jesus is finishing His sermon on the mount . He instructs us to be the light. We as Christians should reflect the light which is Jesus is our life.

What does it mean to own your faith? It means to desire Jesus in every are in your life. To know God by being in the word and talking to him through prayer. It means to strive to live like Jesus and not how others live. It means to do what is right to show the world Jesus.

Can you do this? I know you can. I think you are already doing some of these things or even all. But it’s time to get serious about being the driver do you Faith. It’s time you stop letting others steer your walk. It’s your life. It’s your faith. Take charge of it. Take ownership of your relationship with Jesus.

Reflect

1.) Who is Jesus to you?
2.) Are you acting like Christ in your day to day life?
3.) Who gets the credit for the good you do in your life?
4.) What kind of impact are you having in school, work, or in the lives around you?

Pray

Pray that God will show you the areas you need to strengthen in your walk with Him. Ask God to help you understand how to live out those 4 truths.
